Frequently Asked Questions

Can coaching or tailored plan help me achieve my realistic goal? Yes it can when combined consistency and training within the guidelines.

Who can benefit from working with a coach? Beginner, intermediate, competitive and non-racer with complex training needs such as wanting to achieve a long term and or specific goal/s, or facing obstacles and challenges in training such as illness and injury or obstacles and challenges in work and or life.

Can I switch between training solutions? Yes you can, training guidance may change due to seasons, training phases, work, family, life changes or other obligations.

Do you only coach people who race? No, it also for cyclists who don't compete in cycling races, but want to use cycling as a medium to help achieve your health (physical and mental) goals. All that is asked of you is that you ride a bike, and want to improve in some way.

Which type of cyclists do you coach? Primarily coaching ultra-endurance cyclists who compete or want to participate in supported and unsupported ultras such as TheMunga, Bikingman Oman, 24 hour and 12 hour mountain bike and road races.

What is ultra-endurance cycling? Any bike race that is longer than 100 miles/160 kilometers, where clock runs continuously from start to finish.

How does remote/online coaching work? Surprisingly well! With the use of modern data tools such as GPS, Strava, power meters, TrainingPeaks, etc, and regular interaction allows a coach to be with you most of the time.

Do I need lots of time to train? The amount of time required depends on your realistic goal. Bare in mind that cycling is an endurance sport that requires large volumes of work at appropriate times to achieve your goal. However, sometimes less is more, and training isn't just about how many hours you ride; it is also about developing power, skill set and adaptability to different situations.

What is a beginner cyclist? Cyclist who are new to the sport, doing a certain event for the first time and looking for entry level training. Your goal might be to make it across the finish line.

What is an intermediate cyclist? Cyclist with at least one to three years training experience, who has trained and competed in a certain event more than once. Your goal might be to finish near the top of your category or age group.

What is a competitive cyclist? Cyclist with more than four years of training experience, who has trained and competed in a certain event more than three times. Your goal might be to win your category, age group, finish near the top or stand on the podium.

What is a non-racer - A beginner, intermediate or competitive cyclist who doesn’t race but has a cycling goal... who wants to build and or maintain fitness or just get faster, aiming to finish a tough local ride in a certain amount of time or completing an Everesting or use cycling to improve mental health.

Do you have a training solution/service which will help me achieve my goal without the guidance of a coach? Yes, there is. RIDEANDRACE has a Tailored Plan or a Pre-built Plan for the beginner, intermediate competitive and non-racing cyclist who wishes to achieve a goal with little to no coaching guidance.
